FIELD NOTES / B2B WORKFLOWS

License filings are a starting point—not a ready-made customer list.

A Texas TABC pending application can help identify an organization or premises worth researching. It does not establish an opening date, an issued license, purchasing intent, or whether a supplier can reach a decision-maker.

Research boundary. The official government source is free. Cavrynt's optional $29 export covers selected counties and a disclosed seven-day filing-date window with 15 named columns. It includes no verified phone numbers, emails, GIS coordinates, or predicted openings.

01 / POS and hospitality technology teams

Possible use: Review recent premises filings in covered counties, match addresses to publicly available business information, and prioritize additional qualification. A filing alone does not show that a POS system is being purchased.

02 / Restaurant equipment and service suppliers

Possible use: Sort filings by location and permit type to organize local market research. Verify whether the premises exists, whether its application remains pending, and whether the establishment is relevant before spending time on outreach.

03 / Hospitality market researchers

Possible use: Compare counts across filing dates or selected geographies, with clear methodology. Do not describe counts as new openings or infer statewide trends from the selected-county export. Different application types and multiple records at one premises require careful interpretation.

For a repeatable research workflow, use the data quality checklist before classifying records.

Verification checklist before acting

  1. Confirm the filing date refers to the source-reported application date, not the first time a listing became visible.
  2. Check the source record and current status in the official TABC pending-applications dataset.
  3. Examine permit type, premises city and county before determining relevance.
  4. Handle grouped records at the same premises carefully; application count is not a count of unique businesses.
  5. Check business identity and location independently. Do not treat a pending record as permission to make unsupported claims.

When to use the free government data instead

If you need statewide completeness, a different filing window, live licensing status, or control over your own filtering, go directly to the official dataset. A dated export is a historical snapshot, not a substitute for live verification.

Inspect the file before buying

See the TABC data guide, compare the free official data with Cavrynt, or examine the 15-column dictionary and fictional CSV sample. If your scope matches the selected counties and seven-day period, review the $29 dated release.
